History:
The Amazonian territories of Iquitos city, were occupied by the jungle
tribes of yameos and iquitos until the Spanish arrival.
These territories were part of Iquitos city, which was named the capital
of Loreto, on January 05, 1864 during the government of Marshal Ramón
Castilla.
The 'fever of rubber' began in 1883, to the end of last century, whose
exploitation and trade caused some inhabitants enrichment and the city
development and prosperity.
Its port became the most important port to ship exportation raw materials.
Nowadays, Iquitos is the most important city of the Peruvian Amazon, which
has the typical characteristics of those times and the tradition of its
houses.
